Summary
A NIH-funded postdoctoral position in Translational Cancer Biology is available in Dr. Loning Fu’s laboratory in the Department of Medicine of Baylor College of Medicine located in the heart of Texas Medical Center (TMC) — the largest medical center in the world. The successful candidate will join our exciting research programs to study the role of circadian dysfunction in obesity, non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases (NAFLD) and NAFLD-induced carcinogenesis. The study will use state-of-the-art technologies, including RNA/ChIP-seq, whole genome sequencing, proteomics, metabolomics, and humanized mouse models, to define the mechanism and therapeutic targets of obesity-related liver cancer and test the role of nuclear receptor and neuroendocrine pathways in prevention and treatment of obesity-related liver cancer.
Job Duties
- Works with the PI for hypothesis development and experimental design.
- Conducts laboratory experiments including animal studies and in vitro cell culture experiments.
- Takes the major responsibility of completing a research projects experimentally.
- Collaborates with lab members, clinicians and bioinformaticians in experiments and data analysis.
- Participates in data processing, discussion, analysis, reporting, and conference presentations.
- Participates in manuscript preparation and publications.
- Mentors junior lab technicians and students.
- Applies fellowships.
- Helps PI with grant writing and competing for research funding.
- Participates in departmental and institutional research symposium and retreats.
Minimum Qualifications
- MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
- No experience required.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD training in molecular and cellular biology, cancer biology, mouse genetics, animal tumor models, and/or epigenetics.
- Prior first author publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Excellent communication, time management and teamwork skills.
- Highly self-motivated.
